720-0888 ignition is collector-box plus ceramics — match electrode count and connector to the full 720 stamp; do not assume a 0830H electrode kit.

720-0888 igniters are a box-store collector with one ceramic per main (plus side burner on some years). Photograph the module, outlet count, and the ceramic clip style. A kit that fits 720-0830H or 720-0896 is not automatic — the 720 suffix decides wire length and electrode shape.

Procedure

  1. Lid open. Press igniter. Rapid tick? No tick → batteries / module first.
  2. Tick, no snap at one main: that ceramic and lead.
  3. All snap, no fire: gas path — regulator reset or tubes before you condemn ignition.
  4. Tank off. Grates/tents out. Photograph each ceramic bend and which post each color lead uses.
  5. Replace one cracked ceramic. Nickel gap to the tube, not to the tent.
  6. If every ceramic is new and there is still no tick, search 720-0888 igniter module — match outlet count.
  7. Fresh cells. Lid open. Light each main.
  8. Ambiguous stamp: find model number.
