Igniter clicks but electrode gap is too wide

You hear the module tick but see no snap at the tube — bend the electrode to a nickel gap, replace cracked ceramics, and confirm the tube is on the orifice.

A healthy spark jumps a nickel-width gap from the electrode tip to the burner tube (or the factory tab). Too wide and you get click-with-no-snap — the same symptom family as clicks, no spark and lights with match only.

Procedure

  1. Lid open. Confirm the module ticks. Fresh batteries if weak.
  2. Darken the area. Look for a blue snap at each ceramic.
  3. No snap at one tip: tank off. Check porcelain for cracks — cracked = replace, do not tape it.
  4. Intact ceramic: gently bend the wire so the tip is about a nickel from the tube or factory tab. Do not torque the porcelain.
  5. Confirm the burner tube is fully on the orifice — a slipped tube puts gas elsewhere.
  6. Wet ceramics after a storm: dry, then retry before ordering parts.
  7. Every tip snaps, still no fire: gas path — regulator / one burner will not light.
  8. No tick at all: module / collector — model igniter guide.

FAQ

Can I gap to the Flavorizer bar instead of the tube?

No. Spark needs the grounded burner tube (or the tab Weber designed). Bars are the wrong target.
